When blogging started out it was mainly a kind of online diary where people would record their thoughts and feelings on day to day life. Over the last few years however it has evolved in to something much more significant, especially when it comes to business. If you have a business and a website and aren’t blogging, you are really missing a great opportunity. So here are my top 5 reasons why blogging is great for business.
Establish yourself as an industry expert
Blogging gives you a platform and opportunity to show what you know. People want to buy products and services from businesses who know what they are talking about. If you can prove that you know the most about any particular subject then people will want to buy from you. You can show people that it’s worth their wile coming to you because you have the knowledge and expertise they really need.

Connect with people
When you write a blog you can show the personal side to your brand. You have a chance to connect with your customers on a personal level and become more than just a logo and a name. It can also help to tell the story of you company. You could write a blog about how the business started out, if it’s an interesting story or how the business has grown. All of these things can help to bring customers closer to the business and encourage them to buy from you.
You blog will drive traffic to your website
When you write a blog you have created something that will drive new traffic to your website. You can share your blog on social media, via email or on back-linking websites. These are all great ways to drive traffic to your website. With social media you should be sharing in groups and on your own pages. You can also send them as private messages if there are particular individuals who you feel would benefit from them. If you have an email list then why not send your most recent blog out to them? Finally back-linking websites are another great place to increase your exposure. Two I recommend are scoopit and stumbleupon.
Blogs keep working for you in the long term
Once you write a blog it’s online forever. Unless you personally remove it of course! But generally speaking it will remain on your website and therefore will be searchable by google. If you use the correct key words for your industry, this can mean that way into the future that particular blog can still bring you in new leads. Researching the best key words for your industry is really important. I use a tool called Jaaxy for this as it tells you how many times any particular key word is searched and how many results there are. If you use this tool you can select key words with high search and low number of results for the best chances of your blog being found first.
Improve Search Engine Optimisation
When you write blogs using key words specific to your industry or the products and services you provide you increase your SEO rankings. This means that your website is more likely to appear higher on a google search. Understanding how key words work and how to use them for your best results is key to writing a high quality blog post.
Putting together a well thought out blog post does take time. If you are busy business owner this may well be time you don’t have! However it is worth considering the benefits of blogging as they are a long term investment that will bring you qualified leads to your business.
