Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. I am Chanel aka Millennial Mum in Business… I am a single mum to one 8-year-old girl (Nyneave) living in Staffordshire in the UK.

For the last 12 months, I have been on a one women mission to become self-employed so that I can take my daughter traveling around the world.

In March 2017 I was working 2 jobs, one office job I hated and one job I enjoyed but had little prospect of progressing in. I was getting home late, hardly spending any time with my daughter and never had any money. Sound familiar?

I knew that there must be another way, a better way, and so I started doing research into working from home and online business opportunities… I discovered Wealthy Affiliate, an online network that helps people start online businesses and work from home. I joined the site, did the training and Millennial Mum in Business was born.

Now I want to help other mums like me to start up and market new online businesses. Helping them to gain financial freedom, work from home (or wherever in the world they want to be) and spend more time with their kids.

It all started with a dream…

My dream has always been to quit my job and take my daughter traveling around the world. For years this has seemed like an impossible dream because I need to work to support us and how would I work if we were traveling all the time?

Last year I was working 9 – 5 in an office job I hated, sitting in traffic whilst my daughter was at an after-school club until 6pm every night. I can honestly say I have never felt so suffocated and miserable in my life. I decided that I wasn’t going to settle for this. I feel that so much of the time we are told how we should live our lives. Go to school, go to college, go to uni, get a job, work for someone else making them money all your life and then retire.

I simply was not going to accept that this was my life and so from there I started looking into ways to make money without going to work. You can take a look at my Online Business Ideas page for more information on how you can do this for yourself.

My big idea…

Starting an online business seemed like the perfect solution. I could do it from anywhere in the world and make money as I traveled. Now, I am not saying it is easy. At first, I had no idea which direction to take. There are so many options out there. If you type into google “how to make money online” you get tonnes dodgy websites that will offer to help you make money online if only you pay £100 up front. I was very cautious about this and luckily have not been ripped off – but be careful.

One thing I did find an interesting concept was blogging and affiliate marketing. I have always loved talking, writing and words in general so it seemed like something I could do and be good at. I started looking into it further and found a great website called wealthy affiliate that taught me lots and I began to build the skills I felt I needed to make this a success. I have spent 12 months learning all about building websites, affiliate marketing, content, SEO, successful blogs and I still have tonnes more to learn.

I am also very lucky to have a friend who has a digital marketing agency and so because my background is in events management and marketing I have been able to do some freelance work for her whilst building my skills. I am now working for a number of businesses and brands managing their online content, social media and SEO.

Dreams Can Come True

Just before Christmas, I went fully self-employed in Digital Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.

It was a big jump for me and I have had many ups and downs over the last year. Being self-employed is not always a 100% secure income which can be really scary. Especially as a single mum. But I was determined and have stuck with, and and it is finally paying off.

It has taken me almost exactly 12 months to get to this point and I never dreamed 12 months ago that I would be where I am now.

I believe that so many more people would be better off if they were self-employed. Especially other mums like me. Not only does being self-employed give you the opportunity to make more money. It also gives you the chance to spend more time with your family, enjoy more free time and travel.

So whatever your motivation, there is a business idea out there that will give you the chance to improve your life, gain financial freedom, and follow your dreams and do what you love.

You Can Change Your Life

No matter who you are, no matter what your skills and experience if you really want something enough you can make it happen. That doesn’t mean it will happen overnight but if you set yourself a goal, then create baby steps and work every day to achieve those goals you will get there in the end.
